Candidate for Ward 5 City Councillor
Roads, housing, safety, and a city hall that answers to Sault Ste. Marie — not the other way around.
Dan is running to get it done.
01 — About Dan
Dan O’Brien was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, and he’s proud to be raising his own family in the community that raised him.
As a father and local small-business owner, Dan understands the everyday realities facing people in our city — balancing a family budget, running a business, creating jobs, paying taxes, and trying to build a good life here. Alongside his fiancée, he owns and operates kasdan co., a local donut and coffee shop, giving him firsthand experience with both the opportunities and the challenges of doing business in Sault Ste. Marie.
Dan is running to represent Ward 5 on City Council because he believes our city has enormous potential — but realizing it requires practical leadership, fresh ideas, and a City Hall that listens to the people it serves.
His priorities are straightforward: take care of the basics, spend taxpayers’ money responsibly, support local businesses and families, improve our roads and neighbourhoods, and make Sault Ste. Marie a place where people want to build their lives and invest in their future.
For Dan, this campaign is about the community he grew up in, the community where he’s raising his family, and making sure the Sault continues to be a great place to call home for the next generation.
02 — Where Dan Stands
Ward 5 residents should be able to count on the basics. Better roads, sidewalks, snow clearing, drainage and infrastructure — with a focus on fixing problems before they become more expensive ones.
We need more homes of all kinds. Dan supports cutting unnecessary red tape, encouraging responsible development and making it easier to build, renovate and invest in Sault Ste. Marie.
Small businesses create jobs, bring life to our neighbourhoods and keep money in our community. As a local business owner himself, Dan wants City Hall to be a partner to people investing and creating opportunities here — not another obstacle.
Every tax dollar comes from someone who worked for it. Dan will push for responsible budgets, clear priorities and better value for residents before asking taxpayers for more.
Clean streets, safe parks, trails, recreation and well-maintained public spaces matter. Dan wants Ward 5 — and the entire Sault — to be a place families are proud to call home.
Residents deserve to know how decisions are made and where their money goes. Dan will be accessible, communicate openly and make sure Ward 5 has a councillor who listens, responds and shows up.
